Game Summary: When it's all said and done, Pine Grove was the better team as they defeated the Warriors in the Eastern Conference Championship Game, 28-20. Some Warrior fans might be upset with the officiating, however, a team really can't expect to win many football games when they rush 17 times for 14 yards. On the other hand, Pine Grove successfully moved the ball on the ground against the Warrior defense for most of the evening, running for 182 yards. You're not going to win many football games when you are outrushed by your opponent, 182 to 14. In addition, the Warriors committed 12 penalties for 102 yards--some mysterious, but others committed in clear view. Penalties have plagued this group for two years and it was certainly a factor in last night's defeat.
Chris Murphy had a good game passing, completing 15 of 28 for 247 yards and 3 TDs. Larry Popovich had a career night on the receiving end, catching 6 passes for 118 yards. Nick O'Brien added another 5 receptions for 48 yards. Eric Eramo had 1 reception at the end of the game for 44 yards. However, the Warriors did not throw the ball Eramo's way for much of the game.
The Warriors took a 13-7 lead into the locker room, but as has been the case in most of their losing efforts this year, they were outplayed in the second half. A touchdown pass to Nick O'Brien with 1:14 remaining in the game, made the final score respectable, but in reality--Pine Grove was the better team on Friday night.
After two consecutive losing seasons, the Warriors finish the 2010 slate with an 8-4 record. The team can be very proud of this record after a tough 1-2 start to the season. While this was not the way the team hoped it would end--on balance, it was a great year. |
